all fixed up it was a timing chain cover gasket that went bad but while i had the timing chain off i got a new timing chain and sprockets, water pump, belt, spark plug wires (idk how that is related to the timing chain cover but i got new so thats that) and a new thermostat just to get a new one in there so now the motor is solid at 186,000 miles (knock on wood). thank you everyone for the help!
