Default Recommended fuel

What is the recommended octane for a stock 95 lt1? I put in 93 and it ran like shit. I was told 93 was to much but it says premium octane recommended. please help.

If the owners manual says 87 octane is recommended, then I sure would try 87 octane for at least 3 or 4 tanks and if it still runs like shit - then it might be something mechancial.

i heard that older 4th gen need the computer reset or at least a couple tanks fulls of a new octane to adjust. Pull the battery cable or wait it out.

Premium, if its running like shit its not the gas. But yea if someone was running crap gas in it the PCM may be adjusting.

If I’m not mistaken premium is recommended for ALL V8 4th gens. Both my 95 and 00 say premium fuel only, anything less will cause knock.

No less than 93 octane ever goes through my 97. It runs like total crap on anything less.

This directly from the 95 owner's manual in regards to fuel for the LT1:

Use premium unleaded gasoline rated at 91 octane or higher
for best performance. You may use middle grade or regular
unleaded gasolines, but your vehicle may not accelerate as
well.

Never had a problem running 91 or 93 in any of my 4th gens. You might have a bigger problem there.

^ Yea I've notice no difference between 91 or 93 in my LS1. Used to run 93 when I was back east. But the highest you can get here in CA at the pump is 91. Thanks to the the tree humpers here, CA has to use RFG. It's oxygenated gas that produces less emissions. And best of all it drives up the refining costs so CA has the highest gas prices in the nation, yay.

The problem turned out to be a faulty coolant temperature sensor.

I have run one tank and one tank only of high grade through my 3.8. it was pretty good as far as I could feel a torque diff'c, but I also got like 18 mpg on that tank, compared to 23 normally on low grade.
