Default "Clunk" When Shifting

3rd and 4th gear seems to have a rather strange noise once the clutch is engauged and let out rather quickly. I don't know if it's that I just haven't driven a 6-speed for awhile or what. All other gears are fine and it's definitely driveline related. Can't tell whether tranny, driveshaft or differential A smooth release of the clutch pedal eliminates the problems, but this is a REAL, SLOW release. Not like synchros are bad since it's already in gear and the master is fully extended. Any ideas? Been out of the game for awhile :tounge:

its not driveshaft, cus that would make it on every shift, not specifically 3rd and 4th.

its possible that there is a stripped gear inside your tranny, but its more likely that you just aren't giving it the right throttle on those shifts.

i'm rev matching every gear... starting to think it's something with the tranny but would think I would hear some type of noise once in gear not with the releasing of the clutch. need to have a trained tech drive it I suppose... and me by no means am one, but hopefully soon to be :stretch:

I think you're probably just letting off the clutch too quickly. just remeber that on the M6, 4th gear is direct-drive, so the shifts you really want to let quickly are 4-5 and 5-6.

learn through school of hard knocks, but hard knocking on a tranny is no bueno

no the release point is the same for all gears 1-3 & 5-6 as the same with 4th but there just seems to be an issue and it puzzles me. must be something in the tranny gear

the release point is the same, but like when you shift to first, you have to ease into it. I mean that I think you're not easing it off enough... 4-5, 5-6 you cna push, shift release, but 2-3, 3-4 you need to ease more than just releasing the clutch. -- "I don't know if it's that I just haven't driven a 6-speed for awhile or what." that could be it - were you used to driving a 5sp?

again, its possible you've got a gear with a missing tooth or something. tell you what, try double clutching the shift to 4th gear. see what happens. if the noise doesn't happen, stop, then DC into 3rd gear.
