Default What Tranny Fluid for the t56?

What type of fluid do you guys use for replacing the existing tranny fluid? Also is it necessary to remove the the shifter to refill?

If you have an original Borg Warner T56 use regular Dexron ATF. If you have one of the newer Tremec's you can use Synthetic ATF.

There is a plug in the side where you can pump the fluid into. However I have always found it easier to pull the shifter and pour it in the top. If you choose to pour it in the top you should still remove the fill plug anyway, then pour it in until it starts to spill out the fill plug hole.
