Default DRL question

4th F'ers,

I recently bought a 2001 Firebird. The daytime running lights are on all the time. Is there a way to turn them off? The owners manual mentioned them and said that they're on all the time in the Canadian model. but it didnt say how to turn them off. Before I bought the car I dont tremember these light being on when I would see it going down the road. Then it sat for a few weeks with a dead battery and other issues. Now its running again and the DRLs are on. Is there a way to tuen them off?

thanks

your day time running lights should not be draining your battery... seems like you have some other wiring issues that needs to be tracked down

Sure fire way to determine if you have a short on a circuit is with the car off to pull all the fuses you want to check, then use a multimeter to check the current across each fuse spot (you have to compress the door closed button so that the internal lights aren't on). None of the circuits should be pulling more than a quarter amp when off. Most should be 0.

If you dont find anything that way then it could be intermittent or a bad alt / battery. Poor battery connection also is an issue. You need to check the battery terminals and make sure they are tight.
