Default Subwoofer not working

So I got back from my deployment. Told the wife to start the car every so often. Battery died anyhow (several years old anyhow so it was probably going to die no matter what). Had it jump started, it ran fine. Shut it off, wouldn't start again. Changed battery, car runs like normal.

Afterwards, I noticed that my music was lacking some bass. Turned the fade knob and the sub wasn't putting any sound out. All my speakers work as normal. Look at my amps, both amps (one for fronts, other for sub) both have the power light on, red warning fault light thing not on. Sub is not vibrating or anything.

Is this what they call a frozen sub? Could it have frozen from sitting in my garage while I was deployed? Or could the jump start have done something? Also, how do I fix this? I hope to not have to buy another sub.

I would double check the wiring... but I'm sure it had nothing to do with the power up. never heard of frozen sub but sounds interesting

"Frozen sub" was a term I came across when I was searching through Google about "subs not working". I saw the term a few times so I thought it was common. The wiring at the amp looks good. I'm going to look a little further this weekend maybe.

If you have a vented or ported box make sure you pull the sub out and check the wires inside too. I have seen people that had there cars in storage over winter come in with there subs not working and it turned out a mouse got in the box and chewed up the wires

I've checked the wiring at the amps and behind the radio. Pulled the sub from the box and the wires are good. Wires at the cross overs are also good. All fuses (checked again) are all good. Sub still won't work. I flip some switches (bass boost, filter, etc) on the amp and the sub moves everytime I press a switch.

One thing I do notice is that when I roll my windows down, my sound goes down a little. Here's the weird thing, if I crank it up for a few seconds and bring it back, it sounds mostly better (if not completely back to normal). I'm going to open up the panels so I can check the wires in the sail panel area and check around my window motor.

It sounds like you have a short brewing that could be the cause of your battery drain too. I dont think that has anything to do with the sub though.

Are you running RCA's to the sub? I've seen amps turn on and look completely normal but the amp channels are just dead. it happens.

There are RCA cables in the system (to my four channel amp and them from the four channel amp to the sub amp. From the sub amp, it is wires to the sub. Thing is, I still have the stock HU so at some point (I'm guessing), it went from wired to an RCA adapter somewhere before going to the four channel amp.

When I have time, I'll take off the panels and see if there is something going on around the window motor area. Don't know if a wire is chaffing or if there is some sort of power loss when the window motor is activated.

I am hoping it is something simple. I don't want to replace an amp or anything. I'm trying to save up for a nice HU so I can complete my setup. As well as setting up a home garage so I can do routine (and not so routine) maintenance on my cars.

The window motor itself could be simply going ...they do fail for various reasons sometimes. I have a slow one that will eventually go.

edit: if possible, see if you can't get the subs to produce sound when plugged into a different amp via the same rca cables that the sub amp is currently using. That would tell you a lot about what is or isn't broken and where to look next.
