it was right below the thermostat and upper rad hose and it went into the intake manifold. then the hoses did a small C shape and went back into the manifold i think right below that. they are metal and are rusted pretty badly so i would just replace them if i knew what they were. antifreeze went through them but i dont know why.

i might be part of the blow-by system... that would be my guess as of right now. it basically instead of circulating coolant through the radiator to cool it re-circulates it back into the engine since it's not hot enough yet

Timing chain cover gasket. I lucked out. But now since i live in NJ this is the 3rd major snowstorm and it just wont warm up enough to let me get out there and turn wrenches. I hope this snow just stops and i can get some nice warm days coming up. The timing chain cover on 3.4's are aluminum so i have to be especially careful cleaning it up and putting it back on.

all fixed up it was a timing chain cover gasket that went bad but while i had the timing chain off i got a new timing chain and sprockets, water pump, belt, spark plug wires (idk how that is related to the timing chain cover but i got new so thats that) and a new thermostat just to get a new one in there so now the motor is solid at 186,000 miles (knock on wood). thank you everyone for the help!
