Default Opti-Spark problems

I have a 95 trans am. Lt1, so of course it has the optispark. I heard they dont play well with moisture, and sure enough i was driving my T/A yesterday and it started raining. Within minutes it started bogging. Is there anything I can do to waterproof it? Thanks

ya it is an essential part that will want to stay away from moisture since it will foul the rotor and cap easily along with the cam position sensor. you can switch to the overhead coils which are some $$$ but you can say farewell to worrying about insulation/corrosion issues.

believe it's a hit or miss type of think for each LT1 and proper maintenance

What all do you have to do to switch to overhead coils?

Its a 95 so its already vented.

What you can do is buy a MSD cap and rotor kit. It comes with an extra bolt to put on top to better seal it, and for some extra insurance you can put some sealer around the cap to waterproof seal it to the opti. Just makes sure you dont get any inside. The MSD cap and rotor kit is about 155.00 from the WS6Store. Its also a good time to replace the plugs and wires, and dont forget to get water pump gaskets as you will have to pull that off to get to the opti. Good luck!

While you're at it, you might want to check to see if anything looks really worn inside the optispark, as well as checking for oxidation. The last thing you want is to replace the cap and rotor, only for something else to go wrong a few days after you put everything back together.

Good call^^ If everything looks good inside the opti you can always use some electric contact cleaner inside.
